BENGALURU: A man from Andhra Pradesh was cheated of Rs 6 lakh by an alleged a car dealer who gave him fake notes.
Syed had returned to India from Kuwait on December 31 due to his wife’s illness. After landing at the Kempegowda International Airport, he was approached by a stranger who asked for a lighter. The stranger introduced himself as Rayyan, a car dealer, and the two later on bonded well.
Rayyan told Syed that he would give him a new car and asked him to pay Rs 6 lakh in advance. As per the complaint, the accused called to meet Syed at the Shangri-La Hotel on December 19, under High Grounds police station limits. Syed told him to show the car, but Rayyan said an advance of Rs 6 lakh first should be deposited in his bank account.
Syed transferred Rs 5,40,011 from his brother’s account to the Axis Bank account given by the accused. After a while, Rayyan said the car delivery was delayed by half an hour and suggested that Syed could take the money back.
The accused Rayyan then gave bundles of notes wrapped in a plastic cover and left saying that he would call Syed soon after the car arrived. But when Syed opened the cover containing the money, he found that only a few notes were original, and the rest were fake notes.
The incident occurred on January 19 and Syed has filed a complaint with the police, who are currently investigating the matter.
