BENGALURU: Residents of paying guest (PG) accommodations in Bengaluru are likely to face a burden of price hike. The PG Owners’ Welfare Association has decided to increase the rent, and a meeting will be held with owners in the next three to four days to discuss the hike.
The price hike is due to various expenses such as building rent, water tariff, and cost of food. The PG Owners’ Association has decided to increase the rent by 5 per cent to cope with these rising expenses.
There are over 2,000 registered PGs in Bengaluru and around 10,000 unregistered PGs across eight zones. According to Arun Kumar, president of the PG Owners’ Welfare Association, “PGs provide quality food, cleanliness and security to residents. The PG Owners’ Association has not increased prices even during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with rising expenses, a price hike has become inevitable”.
He added that the owners will meet to discuss the price hike. The exact percentage of the hike will be announced after the meeting, he said.
