DAVANAGERE: Thousands of devotees witnessed the ‘theppodsava’ of Sri Lakshmiranganatha Swamy at Komaranahalli village in Harihar taluk on Friday evening. The ritual was started in 1951 and this was the third occasion. The previous ‘theppodsava’ was conducted in 2009.
An idol of Lord Ranganatha Swamy was taken in a boat, decorated with flowers and lights and carrying, in the lake. It is believed that the ‘theppodsava’ bring good fortune to all the seven surrounding villages and farmers.
The ‘theppodsava’ begins with offering puja to the presiding deities of the surrounding villages near the lake after which the idol of Ranganatha Swamy is taken on a boat in the lake. After a few hours, it reaches near the temple and special prayers are offered. Women also set afloat lighted lamps in the lake.
