BENGALURU: While the government is pushing the ambitious ‘Brand Bengaluru’ project, there seem to be hiccups every day. The once-safe Silicon City has now become a dangerous city. People are living in fear, wondering when, where, and how the next accident will occur on the road.
Recently, a driver sleeping in a park was killed when a branch of a tree fell on him. Accidents due to potholes, tree falls and incidents involving Namma Metro have become common.
Two days ago, debris suddenly fell on a moving car from the Metro elevated line along Mysuru Road. The debris damaged the front windshield and roof of the new SUV. The incident left the occupant of the car shocked and frightened.
The occupants of the SUV said that the incident occurred when they were going to attend a function. Naveen Raj, the car owner, said, “We were on our way to a family function from Bagalur to Mysuru in a new car. A piece of debris fell from the overhead line when a Metro train was passing. The debris damaged the front windshield and sunroof of the car. I immediately tried to contact BMRCL officials, but then I filed a complaint at the Byatarayanapura police station. We need compensation for this; it has not even been a month since we bought the car. Metro officials should be held responsible for this. This is not a matter of ignoring and take it seriously”.
The police have assured him of action. Metro officials visited the spot, gathered information from Naveen Raj, and promised to take further action.
Citizens are now questioning who would have been held responsible if the debris had fallen on someone and noted that the Metro authorities need to provide a permanent solution and proper management to prevent such untoward incidents.
