BENGALURU: Consumers are unhappy with the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) as they have been receiving inflated water bills over the last few months. In the past three to four months, water bills have been increasing, and the Water Board has not provided any explanation.
Following the hiked water bill, citizens are now questioning whether the board is looting consumers. Consumers are shocked and outraged over the bills. Despite reduced water consumption, meter readings show increased usage, and consumers are being charged extra, they alleged.
Consumers who have used less water than the average monthly consumption are receiving additional bills ranging from Rs 300 to Rs 600. They are now questioning why they should pay higher bills despite reducing usage, but the BWSSB has not provided any clarification on whether there a technical issue with the meter reading machine, or are the board is intentionally overcharging?
Consumers are frustrated with the constant inflated bills and are blaming the free guarantee schemes.
A woman, Vijaya, from Kavika Layout, Mysore Road, complained they received a bill for Rs 548 against the regular bill of Rs 440. Bhagya, another consumer of 6th Cross Road, Hosahalli, received an increased bill of Rs 2,100 instead of the usual Rs 1,500.
Homemaker Sujata from Hosalli, said they received an increased bill of Rs 1,800 instead of the usual Rs 1,200. They have to pay an additional Rs 600, which is a burden for them. Kamalaja, a resident of Bapuji Nagar expressed outrage at the BWSSB, saying they received a water bill of Rs 2,100 instead of the regular Rs 1,651.
Citizens are demanding immediate action to regulate the rising water bills.
