BENGALURU: A Nepalese couple, who were working as domestic helps at the house of the Sampige theatre owner in Jayanagar 3rd Block, decamped with 1 kg of gold jewellery and Rs 2 lakh in cash. They have since been arrested. The accused Ganesh and Geeta were working at Sampige theatre owner Nagesh’s house for the last two years.

As per the complaint, all the family members had gone out for a programme except Nagesh on October 21. The couple was waiting for the right time. They drugged Nagesh the owner and robbed his house when he was alone. When the family members returned home, they found Nagesh in an unconscious state. The couple had stolen valuables from the cupboard.

Nagesh’s son Venkantesh Nadubidi filed a complaint at the Jayanagar police station. Police arrested the couple from Mumbai based on CCTV footage and mobile tower data.

Nagesh said, “They worked with us for two years and were very friendly and adjusted well with our family. We left our house in their care whenever we went out. There were no issues till now. But, on October 21, they did this after other members of the family went out for a programme. They drugged me with something and stole from the house. We had hired them through someone. They came from Nepal. Now, we don’t trust anyone. The police have done a great job; thank you. We will hire only  locals from now on”.
