Man opens fire after car grazes his two-wheeler in Dharwad, arrested

DHARWAD: A scooterist opened fire from his pistol after a car allegedly brushed his two-wheeler on the R N Shetty Stadium Road here around midnight on Thursday. He has since been arrested and hospitalised while the three men in the car have been taken into custody by the police.

Abhishek Baddimani, who runs a finance business near Sangam Circle here, was travelling on his scooter when a car coming from behind grazed his two-wheeler. An argument ensued which escalated into fisticuffs when Abhishek pulled out his pistol and opened fire. Two of the bullets hit the car, but luckily, no one was injured.

Police Commissioner N Shashikumar, who visited the spot, said both parties have lodged complaints. “Abhishek Baddimani has been admitted to KIMS Hospital while Prajwal, Ganesh and Dinesh, who were in the car, have been taken into custody. In his complaint, Abhishek has claimed that the trio banged into his scooter, assaulted him and tried to snatch his firearm. He also claimed that the three had tried to bundle him into the car. There are two bullet marks in the front of the car and near the rear view mirror on the driver’s side”.

The police chief said one among the trio has also lodged a counter-complaint. “The complaint says that Abhishek was riding rashly and when the three questioned him about it, he pulled out his revolver and opened fire. While taking Abhishek to hospital, it was evident he was drunk. Cases have been registered against him for attempted murder and under the Arms Act”, he said.
