Tons of filtered sand illegally mined from lake seized in Nagamangala village

The mines and geology department has seized the illegally mined filtered sand.

MANDYA: Officials of the Mines and Geology Department seized mounds of filtered sand mined from a lake at Moodalakoppalu village in Nagamangala taluk on Saturday.

The illegal sand miners would operate late in the night and mine sand from the Singarasana Kere lake. They would filter the sand and then transport it elsewhere. However, before the officials landed, the illegal miners had moved away all the equipment including excavator and trucks.

Though the villagers had complained to the taluk administration, no action had been taken against the illegal sand mining. Fed up of this, some of the village elders informed the Mines and Geology Department following which two officials, Nagesh and Roopa, visited the spot and seized the mounds fo filtered sand.

Based on the videos shared by the villagers, the Mines and Geology Department now plans to seize teh vehicles used for illegal sand mining and take action against the culprits. A case has also been registered at the Nagamangala police station.
