Many in the audience walked out of the venue as the women on stage made vulgar gestures.

VIJAYAPURA: Vulgar dances at a Navarathri event organised at Shahu Nagar here left the audience squirming, with half of them walking out of the scene, on Thursday night.

The Swagat Adishakti Tarun Mandali had organised a Lavani programme, a famous folk dance of Maharashtra, as part of the Navarathri celebration and a cultural troupe from Maharashtra had been invited to perform. However, the vulgar gestures by the women and gyrating dance left the audience unimpressed.

Many noted that Goddess Durga is worshipped during Navarathri and an idol used to be installed on stage. However, this time, the vulgar dances and gestures have spoiled the festival atmosphere, they said.
