BENGALURU: After videos of a woman who was forced to breastfeed her child behind a shelf in a corner of Trinity Metro station in City on Monday, went viral, it had sparked much outrage. Public TV had reported about the lack of nursing rooms in metro stations.
Following the incident, the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSCW) has written to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) managing director, urging the authorities to set up nursing rooms in all metro stations. The commission cited existing facilities in bus stands and railway stations.
Women’s Commission chairperson, Nagalakshmi Chowdary wrote to Metro to set up nursing centers. The letter includes several points, including:
- Bus stands and railway stations already have nursing rooms.
- Metro stations should also provide this facility.
- On September 16, there were reports of a mother struggling to breastfeed her child in a metro station.
- Request to establish nursing centres at every metro station.
The commission has also urged BMRCL to take immediate action and provide necessary facilities for women travellers.
