UDUPI: The police have arrested two men, one for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman in Karkala, and another for abetment, based on the complaint filed by the victim’s parents.

The arrested are Altaf and another Savera (Xavier) Richard Quadras, who had brought the beer bottle which was allegedly spiked before the woman was raped.

However, some Hindu organisations have claimed that this is not just rape, but a case of gangrape. They are demanding the arrest of the another accused.

According to the Superintendent of Police, Dr Arun Kumar, the accused Altaf and the victim had been friends on Instagram for three months.

On Friday, Altaf called the victim and asked her to come to his place. Later, he called two of his friends and brought beer bottles. The woman claimed that the accused forced her to drink the spiked beer and then raped her. The victim was later dropped off near her house.

The car that used to kidnap her has been seized and the victim is now being treated at a hospital in Manipal, the SP added. The police have registered a rape case at the Karkala town police station under sections 138, 64, along with 3(5) of BNS and are investigating further.
