Former minister BC Patil’s son-in-law ends life by consuming poison in car

DAVANAGERE, HAVERI: The son-in-law of former BJP minister B C Patil, Pratapkumar K G, committed suicide by consuming pesticide in his car after parking it by the side of the road, on Monday. However, the exact reason for the suicide was not known and no death note was found in the car.

Pratapkumar had parked his car by the side of the road in Honnali taluk of Davanagere district. He was shifted to a local hospital and then to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga, but he died enroute.

Davanagere Police Superintendent Uma Prashant said Prashanthkumar was found in his car around 2.30 pm near Arekere. “It is suspected that he committed suicide due to personal reasons. As per information available, he was coming from Shivamogga towards Kattalegere. Prathapkumar was alone in the car and no death note was found. The reason for suicide will be established after a detailed investigation”, she said.

Pratapkumar was married to B C Patil’s eldest daughter Sowmya. He is also Patil’s wife Vanaja’s brother and would look after the family’s agriculture business. On receiving information about his death, Patil, who was in Hirekerur, rushed to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga.
