BENGALURU: The state government, which had proposed an insurance scheme for gig workers in the 2023-24 budget, issued a formal notification on the scheme on Monday.
Under the scheme, gig workers employed with e-commerce platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, Flipkart, Big Basket, etc., will be eligible for Rs 2 lakh life insurance and Rs 2 lakh accidental insurance. Gig workers who wish to enrol for the scheme will have to apply on the Seva Sindhu portal with all relevant documents and procure and identity card.
The scheme is open to all gig workers aged between 18 and 60 who are employed with e-commerce platforms. However, they should not be income tax payees or availing of ESI and EPF facilities. They will have to submit a letter confirming their employment or identity car, Aadhaar number, E-Shram identity card number, recent passpost size photographs and address proof like voter ID card, driver’s licence, Aadhaar card, passport, bank passbook etc, according to the notification.
