MANDYA: In a rare instance, a woman police sub-inspector (PSI) took charge of Mandya Central police station on Wednesday from her own father.

It was a proud moment for PSI Venkatesh when his own daughter came as a PSI to the station where he was on duty. He had been working as a PSI at the Mandya Central police station for the past one year.

Venkatesh has now been replaced by her daughter Varsha. The father congratulated his daughter and welcomed her with a bouquet. Varsha got a bit emotional while her father was sharing his experiences of serving in the Army.

Venkatesh served in the army for 16 years and wrote the PSI exam in 2010. He was appointed to the police department under the army quota. He has now been posted in the Mandya SP’s office.

Venkatesh’s daughter B V Varsha passed the PSI examination in the 2022 batch. She was serving as a probationary PSI for the last one year, and has now been posted as PSI of the Mandya Central police station where her father was serving. Mandya Superintendent of Police Yatish expressed appreciation for this rare moment.

After taking charge, PSI B V Varsha said, “My mother is the first teacher and taught me everything from childhood. I studied at a government school and we went through difficult days in my childhood as my father was in the army. Children will learn definitely wherever they are if they have an aim in life, but it is a wrong perspective that chldren from private schools excel. I am the best example of that. Senior officers also supported me a lot”.

Venkatesh said, “I am feeling very proud of my daughter and I am happy I had the support of the Mandya Superintendent of Police. I always looked up to my father and I wanted to serve the public and respond to their problems. I thought this was the suitable field for me to serve society. My wife’s contribution to my success is immeasurable, she never expressed her pain to me. Today, I can see the result of her hard work. Parents should teach human values and good culture to their children , which are most important in life.”
