BENGALURU: Ahead of the state Assembly election, saree shopping and bulk booking have increased, and traders at Chickpet in the city are unable to the demand in the city.
After the announcement of election dates in the state, the purchase of many items in the city has increased, especially the number of people making bulk booking of sarees. Shop owners and other traders claimed that the demand for sarees has increased even after the Election of Conduct came into effect.
Before the announcement of election dates, many politicians bought sarees in bulk to attract women voters and distributed them. Traders claimed that even after the implementation of the election code of conduct, the demand has not dipped.
“Saree business is going very well. After the announcement of the election, we are not getting sarees in bulk due to the high demand. Because of the unavailability of sarees, even other dress materials are being lapped up. After the Covid-19 lockdown, we are seeing brisk business only now as elections are coming up in a few days”, said Siddharth, secretary, Chickpet Garments Association.
