BENGALURU: The residents of Bommanahalli village in Nelamangala taluk, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, are forced to use contaminated, oily water for domestic purpose like washing, cleaning, preparing food and for bathing. Children and livestock are facing severe health issues due to use of the polluted water. But none of the authorities concerned visited the place even after several complaints.
Residents alleged that the water is getting polluted as contaminated water and effluents are directly being discharged into the lake and have demande immediate solution.
Local resident Muniraju said, “Industries are increasing in this area and water in the lake is fully contaminated due to discharge of pollutants. Schoolgoing children are forced to use the contaminated water and it will affect their health. The authorities concerned should at least test the water samples to ascertain if there is chemical pollution. Every day, we are using the same water for domestic purpose. Elected representative should visit this place and taste the water, then they will realise our misery”.
Another resident of the area, Shashidhar, said, “The area falls under Budihalli Gram Panchayat and thousands of people are using the poisonous water for domestic purpose. The water, contaminated with oil and toxic substances discharged from industries joins the Bommanahalli lake through a canal. Several heads of cattle have already died after drinking the polluted water. The children of the government school here are drinking the same water from a tubewell, which is leading them to fall sick. We are fed up of the apathetic officers, all this is happening because of their negligence”, he charged.
