Student stabs girl, murders her and attempts suicide at Bengaluru college

BENGALURU: A girl was stabbed to death by a boy who then stabbed himself over an alleged love affair, at Presidency College on the outskirts of the city on Monday. He stabbed her with a knife more than 10 times in the neck, chest and other parts and later he himself stabbed in the chest.

The college authorities immediately shifted the blood-soaked girl to hospital, but she had died on the spot. The incident occurred in Rajanukunte police limits and police are yet to ascertain the exact reason for the murder and suicide attempt.

The accused Pavan Kalyan is undergoing treatment at Bowring hospital and the deceased girl Layasmitha on the photo.

The deceased student was identified as Layasmita (19), who was pursuing B Tech course. The accused Pavan Kalyan was initially admitted to Sparsh Hospital at Rajankunte for treatment and was later shifted to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

Pavan Kalyan and Layasmita are from the same village in Kolar district. Pavan is pursuing BE at an engineering college near Nrupatunga road.

Around 1 pm on Monday, Pavan called Layasmita to come out of the classroom and when she reached ground floor, he stabbed her multiple times. She collapsed on the floor, and immediately the security guards at the college rushed her to the hospital.

Ajay said, the student Pavan Kalyan murdered Layasmitha for alleged break up with him.

One of the students of Presidency College, Ajay said, “Exams are to start from January 4 and all are preparing for it at PG accommodations and hostels. The incident went viral on our WhatsApp groups. The reason behind the act may be their break-up. That is why he may have stabbed the girl”.
