Bookworm bookstore suffers Rs 12 lakh loss after 5,000 books soaked in rainwater

BENGALURU: After days of sweltering heat, Bengaluru residents got relief from the rain on Wednesday evening, but the downpour also caused several tragedies. There were deaths, injuries, and trees were uprooted.

Amid all this, water gushed into a bookstore on Church Street, causing losses running into lakhs of rupees. The popular Bookworm bookstore on Church Street was flooded and about 3,000-4,000 books were soaked in rainwater, resulting in a loss of about Rs 12 lakh for the shop owner.

The bookstore has been there for nearly 25 years, and this is the first time something like this has happened. The staff struggled all night to save thousands of books. Heavy rain, along with hail, suddenly gushed into the bookstore. The staff are now working to dry the wet books. Some paintings have also been damaged.
