Power tariffs for domestic consumers rise by 56 paise per unit from May 1

BENGALURU: Domestic consumers of Bescom can expect an electricity tariff hike shock from May 1. The billing process starts on the first day of the month and goes till the 15th days.

This month’s bill will have a fresh hike of 56 paise per unit. One unit of electricity will be costlier by 56 paise. The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) had approved the tariff hike after Bescom submitted a proposal.

The increased tariff will be included in the bill from May 1. For the 2024-25 financial year, Bescom had expected Rs 34,084 crore in revenue from electricity sales, but only Rs 32,019 crore was generated. Bescom faced a shortfall of Rs 2,068 crore and now, following KERC’s order, the Rs 2,068 crore shortfall will be collected from consumers.
