BENGALURU: The city is facing a severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, affecting party halls and event bookings. The disruption in commercial gas cylinder supplies have led to cancellations of weddings, naming ceremonies, and other events.
Hotel and party hall owners are struggling to cope with the prevailing situation, with some forced to cancel bookings due to the shortage. One hotel owner lamented that they’ve been cancelling bookings for a month and are struggling to pay bills.
“Last month, there were fewer events due to examinations for students and this month, we are witnessing shortage of LPG cylinders. Earlier, we used to close at 1 am, but now we are shutting down at 10 pm itself. We are also forced to give sambar for idli in cups and stopped giving sambar with dosa. We are managing to get only one cylinder per day, that too at Rs 8,000-9,000 each”, Raghavendra Maiya of Chalukya Samrat hotel in Seshadripuram told Public TV.
“We are not taking bookings for the party hall due to LPG shortage and it has become very difficult to run the business. We are advising people to put off their events and we are not taking any bookings till June-July”, said Raghavendra.
The shortage is causing significant financial losses, with some party halls reporting losses of lakhs of rupees. Some customers are trying to bring their own cylinders, but it’s not a sustainable solution. The situation is getting dire, and some party halls are considering temporary closure until the situation improves.
