BENGALURU: The city is witnessing a concerning rise in drunk driving cases. Over the weekend, traffic police booked 732 cases and checked over 50,000 people at 140 locations across the city. If caught, drivers face a fine of Rs 10,000.
According to officials, despite the increased penalty, the number of cases continues to be alarming, with over 2,000 cases registered in the past month alone. This has led to an increase in accidents in the city.
Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Karthik Reddy has instructed all traffic police stations to conduct daily checks to curb drunk driving. The police are taking strict action against offenders, and the citizens have been urged to cooperate to ensure road safety.
