SHIVAMOGGA: A 15-year-old SSLC student was brutally murdered at Urugaduru here following an altercation during a cricket match. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with locals demanding justice.

The police have arrested seven minors involved in the crime and are investigating their alleged ganja use. The victim’s family has been offered Rs 15 lakh in compensation by the state government, with Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 5 lakh from the Education Department.

Sanketh, a bright student, was killed after trying to intervene in a scuffle between his friends. The incident has led to protests, with locals demanding action against the accused and stricter laws to curb ganja use.

According to police, the accused and the victim were friends and had played cricket together two days prior to the incident. The altercation began over a dispute during the game, which escalated into a physical fight, resulting in Sanketh’s death.

The police have announced increased security measures, including setting up an outpost in Urugaduru, to maintain peace in the area. The district administration has also assured strict action against those involved in the crime.

Shivamogga SP Nikhil B stated that the seven minors were involved in the crime and are being questioned about their alleged ganja use. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are working to determine the role of each accused.

The incident has been widely condemned, with local leaders and politicians expressing their condolences to the victim’s family. Former Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa visited the victim’s family and demanded strict action against the accused.

Sanketh’s funeral was held amidst heavy security, with locals and right-wing activists protesting and demanding justice.
