BAGALKOT: A scam involving fake PhD certificates has rocked the government colleges in Bagalkot district. Approximately 60 guest lecturers out of over 100 working in 18 government colleges are suspected to have submitted fake PhD certificates from other states, including Uttar Pradesh’s Chaudhary Charan Singh University, to secure their jobs.
The certificates are suspected to be fake, with some having different designs and others issued in Kannada despite the university not having a Kannada department. The Higher Education Department has initiated an investigation, with some college principals verifying the certificates with the respective universities.
Some guest lecturers have stopped attending work, while one has resigned. Others have been asked to produce original documents. The scam has sparked widespread discussion in the education circle, with the department seeking information from universities that issued the PhD certificates.
The incident has raised concerns about the authenticity of PhD certificates being submitted by guest lecturers. The department has found that some certificates have been issued with different designs, and some have been issued in Kannada, despite the university not offering Kannada as a subject.
The Higher Education Commissioner has sought information from the universities that issued the PhD certificates, and an inquiry is under way. The incident has also led to questions about the recruitment process of guest lecturers in government colleges.
