CHIKKABALLAPUR: The thieves broke into the tahsildar’s office here and stole valuables including two computer CPUs, monitors, two laptops and two printers at Nandigrama village on Wednesday night.
In the deputy tahsildar’s chamber, thieves broke the lock of the cupboard and tables and chairs and stole all the valuables. The gram panchayat building is being built adjacent to the Nadakacheri. When a former gram panchayat president visited the building on Thursday morning, he noticed the Nadakacheri door had been broken open.
“The gram panchayat building is built adjacent to our office. A former grama panchayat president had come to visit the building around 8.30 am. After looking around the office, he called out aloud, but no one responded. He realised that there had been a theft and informed the police about the same. The police visited the spot. Everything related to the computer system has been stolen, but records are safe. All the important records are stored on a computer system. Nothing else is damaged, “said Deputy Tahsildar Yashoda.
The villagers also realised that thieves had also entered the government high school and had stolen UPS batteries. Apparently, the thieves who ransacked the Nadakacheri did not steal any documents.
“We come to the office around 9.30 am and wind up around 7 pm. There are people through the day, but no one comes in the night. Everything related to the computer system has been stolen. The Nadakacheri is on the outskirts of the village and since the office has no CCTV cameras, we have no clue who is involved in the theft,” said Manu, a staffer at the Nadakacheri.
A case has been registered at Nandigiridhama police station and the police visited the spot along with the dog squad.
