Lorries stoned by highway robbers near Channagiri village

DAVANAGERE: A robbery attempt on lorries was foiled at Medugondanahalli village in Channagiri taluk on a state highway late on Thursday night when a group of miscreants tried to block and rob the lorries carrying agricultural goods.

The lorries, which were travelling from Chikkamagaluru district to Hubballi and Dharwad, were pelted with stones by the miscreants when the drivers refused to stop. The drivers, who were frightened by the attack, stopped their vehicles, and the miscreants fled the scene.

The police were informed, and a search operation was launched to apprehend the culprits. A case has been registered at Channagiri police station. The incident has caused concern among the public, who are demanding increased highway patrols and protection for vehicles.

The lorries suffered damage, and a driver was slightly injured in the stone-pelting incident. The authorities are taking steps to ensure the safety of vehicles traveling on the state highway.
