BENGALURU: A shocking incident unfolded in Bengaluru when realtor CJ Rai, the head of Confident Group, allegedly took his own life by shooting himself at his office on Langford Road, near Richmond Circle. The incident occurred around 5 pm, amidst an ongoing Income Tax (IT) raid on his premises.
Rai, reportedly under pressure due to tax evasion allegations, had been facing IT raids for the past three years. According to eyewitnesses, Rai was questioned by IT officials for about an hour before he suddenly pulled out a gun and shot himself.
The IT officials present managed to wrestle the gun away from Rai and immediately called for medical help. Despite efforts to save him, Rai succumbed to the injury at Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital. Though all personal belongings are confiscated during a raid, questions are being raised as to how Rai managed to hold on to his gun.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshay Machhindra Hakay of the Central division is leading the investigation, questioning the eight IT officials who were present during the incident. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, examining Rai’s mobile phone, and searching for any potential suicide notes or clues.
The investigation aims to determine the circumstances surrounding Rai’s death and whether any foul play was involved.
