BENGALURU: Entrepreneur Mohandas Pai took on Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy over public transport issues in Bengaluru. Pai criticizes the government’s failure to provide adequate bus services, citing a shortage of buses and poor road conditions.

Pai suggested allowing private bus services to address the issue, posting on X, “If it’s hard for you to provide service, allow private transport.” He pointed out that the city needs at least 15,000 buses, but currently has only 7,000.

Minister Reddy responded, challenging Pai to a public debate, saying, “Come, let’s have a face-to-face discussion. You’re welcome to talk to our BMTC MD”. Reddy defended the government’s efforts, highlighting the ‘Shakti’ scheme providing free bus travel for women and claiming Karnataka’s public transport is better than other states.

Pai shot back, emphasizing citizens’ rights and the need for better services: “We’re not asking for freebies; we’re paying taxes. 7,000 buses are insufficient… Allow private operators to run buses – many cities do this.” He criticized the government’s monopoly on bus services and urged Reddy to focus on meeting citizens’ needs.
