BENGALURU: Director General of Police (Prisons) Alok Kumar is taking a multi-pronged approach to curb irregularities at the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. There have been instances of mobile phones and narcotics being smuggled into the jail, catering to both undertrial and convicted prisoners.
Following his appointment as DGP-Prisons, Alok Kumar has conducted surprise raids on all barracks, seizing mobile phones and tightening security to prevent external supplies.
The jail’s surroundings, with dense trees and bushes, have been used to throw in mobile phones and narcotics. To counter this, the authorities are clearing the vegetation around the jail and installing high-quality CCTV cameras to enhance surveillance. This will help detect and prevent smuggling attempts from outside.
The move aims to tighten security and maintain cleanliness around the jail, making it harder for contraband to be thrown in, officials explained.
