KARWAR: A 20-year-old woman, Richele D’Souza, allegedly took her own life on January 9 in Karwar’s Kadra area due to harassment by Chirag, son of JDS leader Chaitra Kotarkar. Her family claims Chirag sexually harassed and assaulted Rishael.

Richele’s mother Reena has filed a fresh complaint with the police, alleging rape and physical harassment. She claims Richele’s body had bite marks and injuries. Richele’s brother Crisil says he’s received life threats for pursuing the case.

The family is outraged that police haven’t arrested Chirag yet, despite their complaints on January 10. They claim police are neglecting the case and haven’t sent Richele’s mobile for forensic analysis.

Richele’s WhatsApp chats with Chirag reveal disturbing messages, including threats and abuse. In one message, Richele says she’ll end her life if Chirag continues to harass her. The family is demanding justice and warns they’ll protest if Chirag isn’t arrested soon.

The incident has sparked outrage, with locals and family members threatening to protest outside the police station if action isn’t taken against Chirag. The family has also approached the CM, Home Minister, and DIG, seeking justice for Richele.

Richele’s mother Reena said, “Richele worked for four months at a start hotel in Bengaluru. She had joined computer classes three months ago. We don’t know how she befriended Chirag. The boy’s parents should be arrested and then he should be taken into custody. Chaitra’s family should also suffer the same fate”.

“I recieved a phone call about Richele’s suicide around 4 pm on January 9. I came to the hospital and even met the mother. I thought Richele was alive and there were bite marks on the upper part of her body”, said Yellamma, a friend of Reena.
