BELAGAVI: Cyber fraudsters are at it again, this time impersonating Belagavi City Corporation Commissioner Karthik on WhatsApp, asking for Rs 50,000.
The scammer sent a message on WhatsApp to Assistant Commissioner Uday Kumar Talawar, with his display picture, claiming that the commissioner was in a meeting and needed the money urgently.
But the assistant commissioner got suspicious and called the number, which was, of course, not answered. He then alerted Commissioner Karthik, who was shocked to see his own display picture being used for the scam.
The assistant commissioner has filed a complaint with the CEN police station and further investigation is under way.
