6 injured as gas cylinder leak sparks fire at house in Dharwad

DHARWAD: Six people sustained injuries after a gas cylinder leak led to a fire at a house at Sunnada Bhatti in Jannat Nagar here on Friday morning. The injured were shifted to KIMS hospital where the condition of one of them is said to be serious.

The injured are Amina, Inaya (3), Kaif (7), Ismail (35), Zarina (65) and Mahiran (13). Of them, Amina is said to have sustained 70 per cent burns. The gas cylinder had leaked overnight and a spark ignited the gas when Amina tried to light a stove on Friday morning. The condition of Amina is critical, and the other injured are receiving treatment.

Three ambulances were used to transport the injured to the hospital. The house suffered significant damage, with the roof sheet blown off. Police Commissioner N Shashikumar and Tahsildar D H Hugar visited the scene, assuring assistance to the victims.

This is the third such incident in the area in the past year, with two previous incidents in Hubbali. The authorities urged people to exercise caution when using gas cylinders.
