Masked man throws mobile phone and contraband into Hindalga jail in Belagavi, probe on

BELAGAVI: A masked man threw a mobile phone and contraband, wrapped in cloth, into Hindalga jail in Belagavi around 3 am on Thursday. The police are investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage.

The incident has become a recurring issue, with outsiders throwing mobile phones, SIM cards and contraband over the jail wall and escaping quickly. This has raised concerns about security at the jail.

Belagavi city police commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase visited the jail and reviewed the incident with jal officials. The police are trying to identify the person and also determine who collected the thrown items. He sought sought information on the incident and stated that the CCTV footage is being verified, and action will be taken based on the findings.

The Crime branch Inspector and Rural station CPI visited Hindalga jail after Public TV reported of the incident. Deputy Inspector General of Police (North zone) T P Sesh, said the incident is over a month old, and a case has been registered at the Belagavi Rural police station. “The KSISF staff’s negligence is apparent. The DG has ordered an inquiry as it is likely that the CCTV footage was circulated by the jail staff. We’ve seized 12 mobiles, a charger, and 4 SIM cards during a recent inspection.”

Borase added, “We’re checking the date and time of the video. The KISF staff are involved in the investigation. We’ll increase patrols and ensure security measures are in place. We will also increase patrolling”.
