DHARWAD: A video showing a seer of the Shivananada Math at Kavalageri village in Dharwad taluk engaging in an obscene act with a woman has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage. The video was reportedly recorded by a group which had demanded Rs 10 lakh from the Shivananda Saraswati Swami, in exchange for not releasing the footage.
According to reports, the seer had allegedly had an inappropriate encounter with the woman at the math premises and the group had recorded the incident. They initially demanded Rs 20 lakh from the seer, which was later negotiated down to Rs 10 lakh. The seer had paid Rs 7 lakh, but the group allegedly released the video when he failed to pay the remaining Rs 3 lakh, it is sad.
The incident has caused a stir in Kavalageri village, with locals expressing shock and anger. The seer has filed a complaint with the JMFC court and the Dharwad rural police station against the group that recorded and released the video.
Dharwad Police Superintendent Gunjan Arya confirmed that the police were investigating the matter, adding that they had received information about the incident through media reports. “The incident has come to our attention, but no one from the seer’s side has lodged a complaint. The police visited the spot, but no information was shared. We have no information about the private complaint lodged before the court and if there is a direction, we will take up investigation”, he said.
