CHAMARAJANAGAR, MADIKERI: A tiger was spotted roaming near the Mahadeshwara Temple on Meenyan Road in Hanur taluk early on Wednesday morning.
The movement of the tiger was captured on a mobile phone camera by a bus passenger while travelling from Meenyan village to Ramapura. The passengers were initially frightened, but some managed to capture the moment on their mobile phones.
This is not the first time a tiger has been spotted in the area. About five months ago, five tigers were found dead in the same Meenyan forest area due to poisoning. The recent sighting has caused concern among locals, who are demanding that the forest department take measures to monitor the tiger’s movement and ensure public safety.

Tourists who had gone on a safari in the K Guḍi area of the Biligiriranga Hills Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district, spotted a tiger on Wednedday, sending them into a frenzy of excitement. The tourists were overjoyed to spot the tiger and their excitement was palpable.
The sighting is considered rare, and tourists were thrilled to have caught a glimpse of the majestic animal. The K Guḍi safari has become a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts, especially after the recent ban on safaris in Nagarhole and Bandipur.
Meanwhile, an 8-year-old male tiger was found dead in a coffee plantation at Chettalli in Srimangala taluk of Kodagu district. The tiger is believed to have died after getting trapped in a snare, which was likely set to catch smaller animals.
The snare, which was small in size, had been laid two days ago and had injured the tiger, leading to its death in the coffee plantation. The authorities are now searching for the area where the snare was set, with the help of a dog squad.
Forest officials, including DCF Abhishek, ACF Gopal, and RFO Rakshit, visited the scene to investigate the incident.
