BENGALURU: The city has crores of shops and businesses and the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has received complaints that many businesses are operating in violation of rules and regulations. Now the GBA has begun a survey of businesses.

According to a High Court order, shops must be built in accordance with the prescribed layout and must have a trade licence. Businesses that do not comply with road regulations will have their licences cancelled and their shops sealed.

The GBA is conducting surveys of business establishments in all the five city corporations of Bengaluru.

“Business owners must display their shop licences, road‑regulation documents, and tax‑payment receipts. If any documents are missing or tax has not been paid, they will be fined and tax will be collected. Not only will licences be sealed, but action will also be taken against officials who issue licenses in violation of the rules. The survey has already started in the South City Corporation, and licence verification will be carried out”, said Ramesh K N, Commissioner of Bengaluru South City Corporation.
