BAGALKOT: A potential disaster was averted at a residential school for the blind near the APMC here when a gas cylinder leaked and caught fire in the hostel’s kitchen late on Wednesday night.

Thanks to the quick thinking and presence of mind of the kitchen staff, the children were safely evacuated and no one was injured. The kitchen staff alerted the fire department, and the fire brigade arrived promptly to extinguish the flames.

The kitchen had three other cylinders, and there was a risk of explosion, but the staff’s timely intervention prevented a major disaster. The quick actions of the kitchen staff in ensuring the safety of the children prevented the children from potentially being burnt alive.
