RAICHUR: A lorry ran over two people, killing them instantly, on the outskirts of Raichur on Monday. The victims, identified as Ramesh (36) and his father Nagappa (58). The body of one of the deceased was cleaved into two in the accidennt.
The father-son duo were standing by the roadside near Yarmarus bypass when the accident occurred. According to reports, Nagappa was talking on his mobile phone and Ramesh was standing beside him when the lorry veered off course and hit them.
The impact was so severe that their bodies were mangled beyond recognition. The incident occurred on the Raichur-Hyderabad National Highway, and the police have registered a case. The bodies were taken to hospital for post-mortem examination.
In another accident, two people were seriously injured after a motorcycle and a lorry collided near Seetanagar Camp in Raichur. The bike riders, Ayyanna and Amaresh from Hosuru village, were returning from Sirwar to Raichur after attending a wedding and were hit by a lorry carrying a load of glass.
The lorry driver lost control and overturned, spilling glass shards on the road. The injured were rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment. The accident caused a traffic jam, with vehicles diverted through fields to bypass the scene. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
