TUMAKURU: Theft cases are on the rise in Tumakuru district, with two cases reported in a single day on Sunday. In one incident, a thief was caught red-handed at the Mallikarjuna Swami temple in Tiptur while attempting to steal the temple’s donation box (hundi).

The thief had locked the manager’s house, destroyed the CCTV cameras and entered the temple. However, the manager alerted the neighbours, and the thief was caught and handed over to the police. The thief was found with stolen gold ornaments, a rod, a knife, and a screwdriver.

In another incident, thieves stole the hundi from the Anjaneya Swami temple in Yekkalakatte village in Gubbi taluk. The thieves, wearing masks and carrying rods, broke into the temple and stole the collection box. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras.

The police have registered cases in both incidents and are investigating and are searching for the culprits. However, citizens are outraged, questioning the police department’s effectiveness in preventing such crimes.
