BENGALURU: Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) Nandini ghee is in much demand everywhere, even at Tirupati Tirumala. Capitalising on this, a network selling counterfeit ghee was recently busted. The KMF has now come up with a bold plan to curb fake ghee supply by introducing QR codes on ghee packages.

The KMF is also being heavily hit by the influx of counterfeit products. KMF, which has repeatedly been caught in the counterfeit trap, is now planning a master stroke against the fake ghee manufacturers.

Across the country, KMF ghee, with its unique taste, was being counterfeited and sold. Having uncovered this counterfeit network, KMF is now planning a direct headshot to curb the spread of adulterated ghee across the state.

After finally learning its lesson, KMF has discussed with food department experts to devise a master plan so that the Nandini brand does not get affected. The plan is to further strengthen the brand with QR codes on Nandini ghee packages or tins. With this QR code, duplication will become impossible.

Elements in the QR code include the union it is produced by, the depot that supplied it, the area it is delivered to and the retail store it is sold to. With this, the federation plans to curb the supply of fake products in the market.
