BENGALURU: A woman was duped of 500 gm of gold jewellery by a man she met on Instagram, who posed as a businessman and proposed to her. The accused has since been arrested.
The man, identified as Janardhan, would often visit her home, and she trusted him enough to let him in. He allegedly stole 500 gm of gold jewellery from her home when she went to make coffee. He had been asking her for money, claiming he needed it to start a bar and restaurant business, and had already taken several lakhs from her.
The woman’s mother noticed the missing jewellery while she was preparing to attend a family funciton and asked her daughter about it, who then revealed the incident to her. The police were informed, and Janardhan was arrested. He is currently in custody, and the police are investigating further.
