BENGALURU: Two constables from JP Nagar police station have been sent to Parappana Agrahara jail for extorting Rs 10,300 from a couple. The arrested constables are Basavaraj and Gurudutt.

The complainants Varadaraju and Anuradha were sitting inside a car near the BSNL office compound in JP Nagar at about 9 pm talking to each other, when the two constables arrived on a bike and asked that what they are doing. They then told them to get into the car and come along with them to the police station.

While heading to the station, they were told to stop the car in the middle of the road. As soon as they stopped, the constables threatened to seize the car unless Rs 40,000 was paid.

They forcibly took the 10,300 rupees that the couple had — Rs 6,300 from Varadaraju and Rs 4,000 from Anuradha. Varadaraju later lodged a complaint at the JP Nagar police station against the constables for extortion. The police registered the case, arrested the two constables and sent them to jail.
