GBA to fine litterbugs at Basavanagudi Kadalekai Parishe

BENGALURU: The Greater Bengaluru Authority ( GBA) conducted a cleanliness drive in the city with ‘Operation Clean’ and raised awareness against littering. Now, the GBA has moved forward to impose fines on litterbugs at the historic Kadalekai Parishe in Basavanagudi.

Counting days for the traditional Bengaluru festival—the historic fair of Basavanagudi Kadalekai Parishe. The Kadalekai Parishe was already held Malleshwaram, and from November 17, the 2025 Kadalekai Parishe in Basavanagudi will start and preparations are already under way.

A review meeting with local legislators and BBMP officials was held on Tuesday, chaired by the leadership of Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy. It was decided that the Parishe will be celebrated as a plastic‑free event. In addition, people attending the Parishe must not litter anywhere. The GBA has also planned awareness campaigns on this.

Furthermore, anyone caught littering can be fined up to Rs 2,000 and marshals will be deployed. This year’s Parishe will be plastic‑free, and shops are not allowed to use plastic bags. If anyone uses them, a fine of up to Rs 2,000 will be imposed, warned Dr K V Rajendra, Commissioner of the Bengaluru West Corporation.
