BENGALURU, MYSURU: A male tiger that repeatedly attacked people and caused the death of humans in Saragur taluk has been caught, said Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B Khandre.

The minister said forest officials have reported that the tiger, which had attacked three people in the past month leading to their deaths, has now been captured.

As attacks by tigers on humans and cattle have increased along the edges of forests in Bandipur and Nagarahole, safaris in those areas was suspended and staff were deployed for tiger‑capture operations.

Officials from various zones of Bandipur and Nagarahole, together with officers and staff from other divisions, took part in the operation and captured the tiger.

The tiger is about 12–13 years old and its teeth are weak, so it was unable to hunt herbivorous wildlife in the forest and had been entering nearby villages and attacking people, according to Khandre, who cited officials.

The minister also said that the Wildlife Department’s APCCF and the Tiger Project Director have been instructed to set up camps near residential areas where tigers are spotted and to investigate whether any other tigers besides this one have attacked people or cattles and to conduct operations accordingly.
