CHIKKAMAGALUR: The Jayapura police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the attack on a woman teacher near Basarikatte in Koppa taluk on Tuesday. He had allegedly tied the teacher to a tree and attacked for spurning his advances.
The accused Bhawit is a relative of the victim and the teacher had blocked his mobile number for the last two months. Bhawit attacked the teacher, tied her to a tree and brutally assaulted her. The victim, a guest teacher at a government school, was attacked while returning home from school.
The teacher is currently undergoing treatment at the McGann Hospital in Shivamogga. The police have taken Bhawit into custody, and further investigation is under way.
