BENGALURU: The number of BMTC bus accidents and incidents of brake failure have increased significantly in recent days, causing concern among passengers and contributing to traffic congestion in Bengaluru.
Over 6,000 BMTC buses operate in the city, carrying lakhs of people daily. In September, 281 BMTC buses and 30 KSRTC buses suffered brake failure in Bengaluru. On average, 92 vehicles face brake failure every day, with most being BMTC’s old buses breaking down during trips.

Kartik Reddy, Joint Commissioner (Traffic), said, “One of the major reasons is several vehicles break down on the road or in the midst of traffic, including BMTC and KSRTC buses. On average 92 vehicles suffer breakdown every day. Clearing the vehicle and shifting them to another place takes time. Following the frequent incident, four wreckers have been allotted for the traffic department. Our team is also trying to find quick solutions in cases of breakdown”.
