The event was organized by the Rai Estate and Charitable Trust, led by Puttur MLA Ashok Rai, at the Taluk Sports Stadium. The stampede occurred as more people participated in the stadium than its capacity. Several people, including children, were seen struggling to get water. Some people carrying small children in their arms struggled to find water and the muddy field became muddier due to the crowd.
The sick individuals were admitted to the Puttur Taluk Government Hospital for treatment.
