BENGALURU: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)-Prisons, B Dayananda, has warned telecom service providers to rectify network issues around Parappana Agrahara central prison within a week, failing which criminal proceedings will be initiated.
Despite the installation of jammers, mobile networks are still accessible inside the prison, raising questions about the effectiveness of the jamming system. The authorities have been asked to investigate and rectify the issue, with the ADGP stating that the network coverage is likely due to overlapping areas between jammers.
Officials have checked where the network is available inside the entire jail. Telecom network is not available for a long distance in a circle around a jammer. But the staff said that the network becomes available at the place where where the coverage of two jammers converge.
The prison authorities are unhappy about the situation, having spent lakhs of rupees on installing jammers to prevent network access. If the issues are not resolved within a week, the service providers will face criminal charges. The prison authorities are taking strict action to address the irregularities and prevent further misuse.
