BENGALURU: The BJP women’s wing in Karnataka, led by C Manjula, has written to the National Commission for Women (NCW) over the recent rape and murder of a young girl in Mysuru. The party has expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, citing various incidents of sexual assault, murder and negligence in hospitals.
The party alleges that women in Karnataka are not safe, with incidents of rape, murder, and molestation being reported frequently. The BJP women’s wing has criticized the state government for failing to ensure women’s safety, pointing out that the government has not taken adequate measures to prevent such incidents or bring perpetrators to justice.
The party has demanded the establishment of special courts to try cases of violence against women and the formation of special investigation teams to probe such incidents. The NCW has been urged to visit Karnataka and take cognizance of the situation.
The party also pointed out that pregnant women are not being provided adequate treatment in hospitals, leading to child deaths, and cited instances from Belagavi, Raichur and Ballari district hospitals. It also said that due to the Shakti scheme, many women are losing their lives in accidents.
The party also pointed out instances of a balloon seller 10-year-old girl in Mysuru, gangrape of a foreign tourist in Koppal, girl’s brutal murder in Hubballi, rape of women in Hangal, Raichur, Udupi, Belagavi and pointed out that the government had not held even one meeting and the lack of action by the Women and Child Development Department.
