Home-alone woman attacked in Davanagere, gold worth Rs 16 lakh stolen

DAVANAGERE: A home-alone woman was brutally attacked with sharp weapons at her house near Kariganur Cross in Davangere district on Friday. The attackers made off with gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 16 lakh.

Eeramma’s husband Umapati discovered her in an unconscious state upon returning home and promptly alerted locals, who rushed her to SS Hi-Tech Hospital in Davangere for treatment.

Davangere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashant visited the crime scene. A case has been registered at Hadadi police station, and the authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from around the house to identify the culprits. Three teams have been formed and the police will apprehend the culprits soon, she said.

The attack is believed to have been targeted, as the woman was alone at home when the incident occurred. The police are working to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen gold jewellery.

Speaking to the media, the SP said people should be vary of inviting strangers home. “CCTV cameras in the area were not working. In case of strangers or if they are going out of their house, people should inform the police. People can also volunteer for the Mitra Pade”.
