Seven, including 4 from Belagavi family, washed away at Shiroda beach in Maharashtra

Five bodies have been recovered and a search was under way for the others.

BELAGAVI: Seven people from the same family, who were among a group of 11, drowned in the sea at Shiroda beach in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, when they had gone for a holiday. Four other members of the group are safe.

Rescue workers had fished out five bodies and a search was on for the others. The deceased were from Belagavi and Dharwad districts. The victims include four people from Khanapur taluk’s Londa village, including Irfan Kittur (37), Farheen Kittur (34), Ibad Kittur (13), and Iqwan Kittur (15), and Namir Attar (16) from Alnavar in Dharwad district, while two who hailed from Maharashtra — Faran Maniyar (34) and Zakir Maniyar (13).

Those who are safe are Izana Kitrur (10), Imran Kittur (42), Zabeen Kittur (38), Isra Kittur (16). The incident occurred when 11 family members went on a trip to Maharashtra’s beaches two days ago. Seven of them got swept away by strong waves while bathing in the sea.

Rescue efforts are underway to locate the remaining missing persons. The incident has left the entire family in shock, with four deaths reported from the same household in Londa village.
